Launch My Northern Business With Me: Building The Visual Identity For Be Reyt Social

Hello! My name’s Lauren, and I’ve recently launched my social media management and content creation business here in Doncaster called Be Reyt Social.

As part of my journey, one of the most exciting (and honestly, most challenging) parts as a creative has been building the visual identity of my brand. I wanted to share a little insight into how I pulled everything together, in case you’re at that stage yourself or simply curious about what has gone into shaping my brand.

I’ve always been drawn to colours, so that’s where I started. I didn’t want anything too corporate or overly ‘sensible’ as that’s just not 'me'. Instead, I wanted the brand to feel fun, creative, and down-to-earth. Inspired by my love of vintage styles, I went for a rainbow-meets-70s colour palette: bold, bright, and a little unexpected. Think bottle green, lavender and neutral navy blue.

The next step was fonts. Since I already had a retro theme going, I chose a bold typeface that felt playful yet strong and lent heavily into the old school vibe. To balance it, I paired it with a more neutral font for flexibility because you don’t always want a big, heavy typeface shouting at you. These two fonts make up the logo for the brand.

Speaking of logos, that part took many iterations. I’d been experimenting with logo ideas since my master’s degree, as that was where the idea for my business first came to light. But eventually, I settled on a clean text-based logo that allowed my colour palette to shine through as I’d worked so hard to find it!

Finally, I worked on defining my brand personality. I jotted down keywords that I wanted Be Reyt Social to embody and these included: fun, friendly, creative but also professional, knowledgeable, and collaborative. These words now guide everything I create, from my mission statement to my tone of voice.

If you’re building your own business, my biggest piece of advice is to trust yourself. Go with your gut, follow your instincts, and the pieces (colours, fonts, tone and messaging) will fall into place naturally. Things aren't always set in stone so go with something that makes you feel confident in your work to start with.
